SD Vintage Hot Stack came out really well in this, to my ear. TV Jones too. The further back the humbucker got the more it came into its own, which is no great surprise i suppose.

There are differences if you pay attention. But they are subtle. It’ll get lost in the mix once all the other instruments are recorded.

I am just gonna say it. Ill get hell I am sure because of everybody nodding in unison and their overpaying for a kit. IT DOES NOT MATTER ONE BIT. Live you won't hear it and recording you can EQ/plugin it to whatever you want anyway. Hoops and heads, quality of craftsmenship WITHIN REASON... yes. Hardware? Just so it is decently built. The rest including mounting techniques. NOT NECESSARY. I am not saying that none of it makes a difference. I am saying the difference is so neglibable that it doesn't matter. By all means if you simply want a kit for aesthetics and have the money..... Just don't let the little come to you saying he needs a DW when a PDP will do just fine for years to come.

Negligible difference. Song and performance matter, preamps do not matter as long as you're not using a Mackie pre.

Love the coated and clear 2 ply and fyberskyn heads. It would've been nice to see hydraulics, black dots, pinstrips, and maybe powerstrokes thrown into the mix.

Why did you use a UT to represent the ambassador? It's a lower quality head and not a fair comparison.

I just bought a 1980’s Gretsch USA Custom power-tom kit… LOVING them! I grew up on Matt Frenette (Loverboy) and his power tom kit - just heaven to see and hear!

Wrong! Wood choice DOES greatly impact tone! Notice how they didn't include any shells made from Cremaster Faecam Lupa, or Bovis Stercus? Those are legendary tone woods, and blow everything else away. And not outrageously expensive either. Even my grandmother can hear the huge difference those woods make in a shell. And she's dead. THAT'S how good they are.

Every head sounds 'papery' to me except for the Aquarians. I recently bought all Aquarian heads for my kit, including the bass drum. It will be my first time using Aquarian heads on my whole drum kit. I'm very excited to finally be using Aquarian Classic Clears, because every time I hear them, I love the sound.
